Light in the Water (Gregorjevo)
On the eve of St Gregory’s Day, 11 March, shoemakers in Tržič and elsewhere in Gorenjska traditionally stopped working by artificial light, and celebrated the arrival of daylight and springtime by making baskets that were set on fire and floated down the river. The tradition of ‘Light in the water’ is kept alive by the children of Tržič, who make little houses and float them down the river with burning candles illuminating them.
