Roasted piglet or lamb

A roasted piglet or lamb is a delight that cannot be missed at any bigger festivity in Bela krajina. A piglet is baked above hot coals in one piece, and the divine taste hits when its skin starts to crack. The people of Bela krajina also prepare young lamb in a similar way on a spit. Fresh bread, young onions, tomatoes and other seasonal vegetables are a good side dish to both types of meat. Following an old tradition, both specialties are being prepared for hours in the open or in a brick oven, so the preparation of a piglet or lamb is considered an exceptional social event.
